8 Topics to Write About on Your Photography Blog

Not sure how to keep your readers engaged on your photography blog? Look no further, here's my top 8 posts to keep readers interested.

Adding a photography blog can seem like another one of those far-fetched tasks that need to be taken care of, but never quite seem to be completed. If you’re a photographer who is running out of ideas for your upcoming photography blog posts, aside from the recap of your latest session, look no further. Your blog is the perfect place to showcase your own work, attract new clients and build your brand. If you’re stuck for ideas, here are 10 blog post ideas for photographers to get you out of your rut!

1- How to Have a Stress-Free Photography Session with Toddlers

Toddlers are prone to getting stressed out when they’re in new locations or around new people, which can definitely lead to the parents starting to get stressed out, too. Use this opportunity to show off your previous work with toddlers and give your best tips on how to keep the kiddos calm and happy, while managing a successful session in the end!

2- Your Favorite Vendors

I love using this as an option because 1- who doesn’t want free advertising? and 2- it’s always great to stay on good terms with other vendors. If you scratch their back, they might just scratch yours, by way of referrals. Use your photography work that you have of other vendors- maybe it’s their photo props, locations, clothing options, bakeries, etc. Tag them and then send them the article, as they will most likely be thrilled to see a write up about them and share your photography blog on their social media!

3- What a Wedding Looks Like With You as the Photographer

This is the perfect way to show off highlights from several of your weddings- take full advantage of showing off the details, the befores, behind the scenes, the silly outtakes and more. Brides LOVE this sort of thing and may just book you based off of this extra photography blog post.

4- A “Get to Know Me” Post

Share some details that you think your ideal client would love to know about you, 10 is a good, round number but pick whatever you are comfortable with and show off a fun, personable photo to connect with your readers.

5- A Guide on How to Dress for Your Session

It seems like every single time I host mini sessions, I get endless messages about how to dress the families and what they should wear- I know I’m not alone in this, right?! Write out an easy, go-to list of tips and advice on how to coordinate your clients wardrobe for the day.

6- How to Mentally Prepare for Your Session

Let’s get real here- most of our kiddos and husbands don’t love photo sessions as much as we do. Create a prep guide for mom to share with her family to get them ready- include a few, simple poses and connect with them in a way that will shake their day-of nerves. Think: “Things Photographers Wish You Knew.”

7- Tips for Seasonal Sessions

Whether it’s winter, fall, summer or spring- clients need help knowing how to dress for the elements. Often, we will find our clients in clothes that are either too warm or hot, improper footwear or whatever else can come up in the midst of a session- let them in on some tips of the location you’ll be shooting at and if they can toss their winter coat in between shots (and put it on while you make adjustments, etc.)

8- Choosing a Location for your Session

If you frequent multiple local locations for your photography sessions, this is a great opportunity to show off your work at each location, throughout the year. This will help reduce the stress of your client in planning and coordinating her photo guests and makes for an easily shareable photography blog.
