With the way social media is working these days, it is starting to seem like Podcasts are the only way to connect with our audiences.. more and more. I know that I never dreamed I’d be offering a weekly podcast– not in a million years! But here I am and my audience is, excitedly, growing and connecting! I am very thankful for my best friend, who has allowed me to pick her brain throughout the beginning steps of my podcast and has lent a hand and much of her expertise as a seasoned podcaster. She guides me and I know not everyone has someone in their corner cheering for them.
I am doing my best to share the information that I know with others who are starting out. Because that’s what it’s all about! I never want to be a small business owner who isn’t willing to share her resources, tips, or insight for someone else who is starting out. (Disclaimer: unless you’re coming to me and looking for a cheap and free way to DIY your brand photos, logo, web design, etc. THAT I have worked years on and spent thousands of dollars obtaining multiple degrees in to be where I am today. 😉 )
With that being said, I know there are over 850,000 active podcasts and LOTS of women sitting on the edge of their seat, waiting to press record for the first time- but are scared! My goal is to reduce the fear- cut out the doubt of what we think we can and can’t do and to empower you to push that button. Launch the podcast. Start the business. Chase your dreams! You can do it and I am rooting for you!

1- Determine Your Podcast Topic
Niche-ing down and finding your ideal client or audience is incredibly important for podcasting, as well as your business. Knowing your audience is the best way to grow your audience. Learning what information they are seeking and in need of, Making sure you address it in every episode. If you already have a business, you probably already know who your ideal audience would be- if not, send me an e-mail and we can work through it together!
2- Get the Podcast Gear
Ensuring that you have professional quality gear for your podcast is incredibly important. Listeners do NOT want to hear your kids playing in the background and get turned off when they can hear the TV Chatter from the next room. Purchasing a high-quality microphone for your recordings is, in my opinion, the single most important piece of equipment you need for podcasting. You can find TONS of them on amazon and a high quality microphone doesn’t have to be $$$! Look for a directional microphone, which will help to deaden external noises and focus only on your voice.
Pro Tip: Make sure your guests also have a microphone available when you interview them- even if they ONLY have headphones with a built in mic, it is considerably better than using your computer or phone’s built in microphone.

3- Determine Your Podcast Hosting Platform
There are many different avenues to choose from for Podcast hosting. My podcast is hosted through Libsyn and it’s incredibly easy to use, widely known, and pretty affordable. After you launch your podcast on your desired platform- make sure that you connect it to others! Apple podcasts, Castbox, Spotify, Podbean, etc are great places to list your show.
4- Do the Damn Thing
Stop procrastinating. You can do it. You have the knowledge. You have the skills. YOU CAN DO THIS. Record a handful (5-10) of episodes before sharing live, so that new listeners can have something to follow up with. Join podcasting groups on facebook or join my Girls in Business group and share your podcast within, you never know who needs to hear your story!
